Highlights from past cluster runs, major milestones, and the road to a 1 million SPM world record.

2024 World-Record Event

The biggest Eternity Cluster event so far was the 2024 push toward 1,000,000 science per minute. What started as an ambitious community Clusterio project became a record-setting run built by hundreds of players coordinating across many linked Factorio instances.

Reddit progress updates tracked the event from pre-launch through the final milestone. An update published on January 26, 2024 formalised the goal, and a later update on February 24, 2024 reported the cluster at 553,000 SPM, with 138 Factorio instances online and total memory usage around 491 GB.

Key Achievements

  • Reached 1,000,000 SPM on March 3, 2024.
  • More than tripled the previous cluster benchmark of roughly 300,000 SPM.
  • Built a solar world with over 40 million solar panels, producing about 2.5 TW.
  • Scaled to more than 160 running copies of Factorio across the cluster.

Scale of the Run

  • Over 400 players joined at least one server during the event.
  • The project was supported by dozens of physical hosts and large pooled memory capacity.
  • Clusterio let separate maps specialise into mining, production, power, and science.
  • The event stayed open to new contributors throughout the run.

How the Cluster Evolved

January 2024

Goal announced

The team set out to build the largest Clusterio event yet, targeting one million real-world science per minute before the Factorio 2.0 era.

February 2024

Mid-run breakthroughs

By late February the cluster had crossed 553k SPM, unlocked extreme research levels, and established the foundation needed to keep scaling.

March 2024

1 million SPM reached

The cluster hit the target on March 3, setting a record and proving how far distributed Factorio megabase building could be pushed.
